C.C. WINN MAVERICKS aim to tame

Coming off their heartbreaking district season opening loss at the hands of the San Antonio Southside Cardinals this past Friday, the C.C. Winn Mavericks’ varsity football squad will hit the road on Friday, October 3, 2014 for a trip down Hwy. 90 East to the City of Castroville, Texas to tangle with the Medina Valley Panthers in a 7:30 PM District 29-5A football gridiron with both the visiting Mavericks and home standing Panthers seeking their first district victory of the season.  This will be the first ever gridiron matchup between these two football squads.

The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football team mentored by head football coach Tom Gonzalez concluded their non-district portion of the 2014 football schedule n Thursday, September 25, 2014 by entertaining the always tough and former district football foe the San Antonio Southwest Dragons in a 7:00 Pm gridiron contest at the Cozel Foster- Veterans Memorial Football Stadium in a matchup that was designated as parent’s night with the Eagles players honoring their respective parents during a pre-game ceremony.  For the second consecutive week, the Eagle Pass Eagles high powered offense hooked up in a wild and thrilling high scoring offensive showcase that managed to keep the Legion of Eagles supporters at the edge of their seats.

Winn Mavericks’ varsity football squad under the leadership of head football coach Eric Villasenor made their District 29-5A gridiron debut on Friday, September 26, 2014 by entertaining the currently undefeated San Antonio Southside Cardinals in a 7:30 PM district opener at the Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Football Stadium in Eagle Pass, Texas in a game that was also designated as Parent’s Night where the Mavericks varsity football players paid tribute to their respective parents during pre-game festivities.

Former Eagle Pass Eagles standout three year linebacker Jesus Villaseñor a 2002 graduate of Eagle Pass High School continues to showcase his football skills and knowledge on the gridiron. He now pacing the sidelines as the co-defensive coordinator for the Brownfield Cubs of District 2-3A Division I. During his three year tenure, he has produced four first team all-district selections, one district Newcomer of the Year and one honorable mention All-State football player at Brownfield High School where he teaches Spanish II as well as Health and P.E.
