Review of Week Two of district:
Eagle Pass over United South: The Eagles did some serious overhauling of their offense game plan. It was only 7-0 at the half, but the second half saw the Eagles take control both offensively and defensively for a 21-0 win. It’s early in the district schedule, but this victory had huge play-off implications for Eagle Pass. Could it be that for the rest of the season we will see a “new look” Eagle offense?? Or is Coach V just masterminding an “unscoutable” game plan for each upcoming game???
Laredo United over Laredo LBJ: The final score was a 38-13 Longhorn win; but the collateral damage to both teams was extensive as both teams lost their starting quarterbacks to injury. LBJ was the most affected as it lost its signal caller for the season with a knee injury, while the United QB will probably be out one to two weeks with an ankle injury. LBJ faces a major preparation of a replacement quarterback by the “Old Football Wizard” since it must travel to Eagle Pass and take on the Eagles. The Longhorns get an open date for their quarterback to heal before they host the Eagles on a Thursday night short week game on Oct. 18th.
Del Rio over Laredo Alexander: Del Rio’s trek to Laredo on a Saturday night resulted in an important 34-12 victory in the early showdown for the district title. Despite trailing 12-7 at halftime, the Rams proved they are for real by shutting out the Bulldogs in the second half. Now the Rams must be careful not to look past United South and LBJ during the next two weeks before playing United in Del Rio in what will be district title showdown number two for Del Rio.
Eagle Pass C.C. Winn was Open: The Mavericks better have utilized their open date to prepare some surprises for Laredo Alexander who travel to Eagle Pass after the Bulldog was leashed by Del Rio. The Winn offense must give Deion Alonso some running room while the Maverick defense might want to copy what Del Rio did to stop the Bulldogs.
Week Three of district play brings a much needed open date for the United Longhorns who once again might have to go to their “quarterback catalog” to look for a third starting QB in this 2012 season.
The Eagle Pass Eagles must avoid being surprised by LBJ. This game is a “family affair” every year but do not expect Oki to make it easy for the Eagles. The Wolves have lost their starting QB and a major part of their offensive threat; so expect the “unexpected” from LBJ including wildcat formations, multiple formations and even “a bag of tricks”. The Eagles will try to continue to surprise with their “new look” offense, while the Eagle defense will “trap” the Wolves.
Laredo Alexander will travel to Eagle Pass to try to vent their frustrations of the Del Rio game with the C.C. Winn Mavericks. It will take a wild stampede offensively and a turnover-free game to upset the favorite Bulldogs.
The Del Rio Rams will entertain the United South Panthers. This game should surprise no one as the Panthers will not match up with the district leading Rams.
