The C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the guidance of head football coach Eric Villasenor ventured into the post season for the second consecutive year on Friday, November 17, 2017 when they journeyed to Schertz, Texas to tangle with the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles in a 7:30 PM gridiron matchup for the UIL Region IV Class 5A bi-district football crown at Lenhoff Football Stadium.  The Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles entered this game sporting an overall season record of 9-1 while the C.C. Winn Mavericks ventured into this match with an overall season record of 3-7.

The Mavericks patented hard hitting an aggressive defensive unit battled the high powered Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles who came into this matchup averaging 49 points per game with plenty of heart and pride and managed to hold the Eagles to a pair of fields goals of 25 and 30 yards respectfully by place kier Romario Perez in the opening period and maintained that narrow margin until 40 seconds left in the first half of play when the Eagles broke loose with a 60yard screen pass to pay dirt from quarterback David Soto to his standout running back Sethe Solis who barely eluded stepping out of bounds on that play.  The Eagles then tacked on a two-point conversion run to take a 14 to 0 lead over the Mavericks into the halftime break.

In the third quarter of this game the more experienced Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles extended their lead with a pair of short touchdown passes of 20 and 5 yards respectfully from David Soto to Stehe Solis and Romario Perez tacked on both point after conversions to give the Eagles a 28 to 0.

The Eagles then closed out the scoring in this game in fourth quarter with a one yard run to pay dirt by Joshua Gomez. Romaro Perez tacked on the point after to eventually give the Eagles the 35 to 0 victory over a truly gallant Mavericks squad who battled with pride, dignity and class.

Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the 2017 C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team on their accomplishment in earning a post season playoff berth for the second consecutive year and would like to wish the graduating Senior class members the very best of luck in all of your respective future endeavors and thank each of you for the countless number of thrills and memories that you provided during your respective C.C, Winn High School Mavericks football careers.
