After three straight road trips C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls basketball team under the guidance of head football coach Paulo Valero and assistant coaches Federico Paniagua, Julio Cumpian and Tonya Rosas came home on Friday, January 19, 2017 to entertain the Harlandale Lady Indians in a key District 29-5Abasketball hoops matchup.

The home standing Lady Mavericks started out slow in this contest finding themselves trailing 17 to 2 two minutes in the second period but after a strategic timeout the valiant Lady Mavericks picked up the tempo defensively and slowly made their way back into this cotest getting scoring production from Silvy Salazar who tallied 10 points in that quarter coupled with a pair of key blocked shots.  The Lady Mavericks cut their deficit down to four points with a minute before halftime before Harlandale hit a pair of big buckets to extend their lead to 9 points going into the halftime break.

During the halftime break the Lady Mavericks coaching staff implemented some adjustments to their offensive and defensive game plans that paid off immediately in the third period as the Lady Mavericks outscored the Harlandale squad 14 to 7 in that period to narrow their deficit to just two points heading into the fourth and final quarter.

The fourth quarter of this game proved to be quite physical with elbows flying at will as well as some shoving going on but despite the rough play the proud Lady Mavericks who unfortunately got some questionable calls by the men in the zebra shirts managed to knot up the game with five minutes left in the ae.  The Lady Mavericks continued to be plagued by bad calls out on the court which enabled the Harlandale squad to go on to outscore the Lady Mavericks 17 to 7 in that period to escape with the hard fought 46 to 36 victory over the Lady Mavericks who truly deserved a better fate.
