Mavericks Head Baseball Coach

Eagle Pass Sports Central has been authorized by C.C. Winn Mavericks head football coach and campus athletic coordinator Eric Villasenor to proudly announce that former Eagle Pass Eagles three-sport standout and current C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football offensive coordinator Heriberto Roiz was unanimously approved by the Eagle Pass ISD Board of Trustees to become the C.C. Winn Mavericks new varsity head baseball coach during their meeting held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018.

Coach Heriberto Roiz graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1994 where he was a multi-sport standout athlete in Football, Basketball and Baseball. He graduated from the University of Texas Pan American in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Spanish. Coach Roiz possesses excellent leadership qualities and is a great role model for all of the youth of our community

During his brilliant high school athletic career the multi-talented Heriberto Roiz was one of the all-time best defensive backs in Eagle Pass High School varsity football history where he was an all-district first team selection and set the school record for the all-time longest interception return for a touchdown with a 105 yard pick six return for a TD against the Laredo United Longhorns. He also was a stellar varsity basketball player at Eagle Pass High School as a forward that gave it 110% effort both on the offensive and defensive side of the court and was the consummate team player in all three of sports that he competed in..

On the baseball diamond he was simply one of the all-time best high school baseball players in the storied Eagle Pass Eagles high school baseball history as a pitcher and outfielder where he was one of the premier hitters in Region IV hitting for a high average, had a very strong throwing arm and had real good speed on the base paths. He was an all-district selection during his sophomore, junior and senior yeas culminating a banner senior year with a remarkable 34 game hitting streak and was selected to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state first team as an outfielder. He was coached by three different head baseball coaches during his high school varsity basebally career Jesse Suarez, Mario Barrett and Ruben Lozano with the assistant coach being Conrado Perez, Jr. for all three of those head baseball coaches.

Heriberto Roiz began his teaching career in 2004 as a Physical Education teacher at Memorial Jr. High School. From 2005-2014 he taught Spanish at Eagle Pass High Scholl and served as the wide receivers coach for the Eagles varsity football program as well as an assistant coaches for the Eagle varsity baseball squad. During his tenure as an assistant baseball coach the Eagles won the district title in 2005, two area championships, reached the regional quarterfinals round in 2011, 2012, 2013and 2014. They also reached the regional finals round in 2013 and 2014.

In 2015 Coach Heriberto Roiz took his teaching and coaching skills over to C.C. Winn High School where he still currently serves as the Mavericks offensive coordinator where he helped spearhead the mighty Mavericks to the programs first ever playoff experience as well as the school’s first ever District 29-5A district football championship in 2016, as well as the Mavericks first ever bi-district crown, the Mavericks first ever area title and the Mavericks first ever regional quarterfinals round. This past season the Mavericks varsity football team made it two years in a row in garnering a post season berth advancing to the bi-district round.

Coach Roiz also served as an assistant varsity girls softball coach for the talented C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ softball program where they reached the post season in both of those years (2016-2017). Coach Heriberto Roiz has been married for 22 years to the former Michelle Gamez herself being a stellar former EPHS Lady Eagles athlete and together they are the proud parents of four very talented children in Jacoup Roiz, Justis Roiz, Jared Roiz and Jenna Roiz each of who are very talented and quite coachable young student-athletes.
