The 2018 Babe Ruth League State champion Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars under the tutelage of manager Robert De La Garza and assistant coaches David Lopez, Tomas Garcia and Morris Libson, Jr. ventured to Harrison, Arkansas to compete in the Babe Ruth League 13 year old division Southwest Regional championship tournament on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Jack Williams Baseball Field.

The high powered Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars went undefeated winning all three of their games to win the coveted 2018 Babe Ruth League 13 year old division Southwest Regional championship by outscoring their three opponents by a whopping 54 to 8 margin and outhit their opponents by a 40 to 19 margin during the Southwest Regional Tourney.

The 2018 Babe Ruth League Southwest Regional champions include Alan Vielma, Issac Stanwick, Derek Ruiz, Alex Paniagua, Juan Martinez, Diego Martinez, Aiden Lopez, Dante Leija, Luis Kancheff, Kyle Gloria, Pedro Fernandez, Efrain Estrada, Jose Duran, Robert De La Garza, and Donovan Becerra.

The 2018 Southwest Regional Champion Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars thus earn themselves a berth in the high caliber 13 year old division World Series scheduled to be held August 9-16, 2018 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the mighty Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars as well as their entire coaching staff on their well earned 2018 Babe Ruth 13 year old division Southwest Regional Tournament championship and wishes each of you the very best of luck at the upcoming 2018 Babe Ruth League 13 year old division World Series. GAME 1

The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars opened tournament action on Friday, August 20, 2018 with a 4:00 PM matchup against the Madisonville, Louisiana 13 year old all-stars. The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars wasted no time whatsoever in setting the tone for their tournament opening encounter as their bats came out hotter than the temperatures back home on the border erupting with a huge 7 run production in the top half of the very first inning with Luis Kancheff, Alan Vielma, Robert De La Garza, Aiden Lopez, Donovan Becerra, Diego Martinez and Efrain Estrada each coming around to score a run in that frame.

Madisonville, Louisiana could only counter with what proved to be their lone run of this game in the bottom of the first but the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars continued the scoring and hitting assault with a 5 run output in the top of the second then tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and put the nail on the coffin with a big 8 run production in the top of the fifth and final inning of this game as the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars defeated Madisonville by the lopsided score of 22 to1. Robert De La Garza led the hitting assault going 3 for 4 at the plate with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Donovan Becerra took the pitching victory allowing just one run and scattering four harmless base hits.

GAME 2

In their second game of the Southwest Regional Babe Ruth League 13 year old division the heavy hitting Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars squared-off against the Benton, Arkansas 13 year old all-stars on Saturday, July 21, 2018 in a 4:00 PM baseball diamond encounter. The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars took the early lead in this game with a pair of runs in the top half of the third inning with Issac Stanwick drawing a two out base on balls, Luis Kancheff followed with a single and Alan Vielma drove both runners home with a solid two RBI single.

Benton, Arkansas answered with a four run output to erase their two run deficit and take a 4 to 2 lead in this game but the proud Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars responded with a 7run production in the top of the fifth inning and then tacked on another 7 run rally in the top of the sixth to come away with the 16 to 4 victory to earn a berth in the Southwest Regional championship game on Sunday afternoon. Alan Vielma took the pitching victory in relief of starting hurler Luis Kancheff. Leading the hitting attack were Luis Kancheff going 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored, Juan Martinez who went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs scored and Aiden Lopez who went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

In championship game of the Babe Ruth League 13 year old division the heavy hitting high scoring Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars continued to feast on their tournament opponents pitching staff as once again they erupted with a big four run explosion the top half of the very first inning to take the lead for good in this title game. Luis Kancheff led off the frame with a single, Alan Vielma sacrificed Kancheff over to second with a well placed bunt, Robert De La Garza blasted an RBI double to drive in Luis Kancheff. Aiden Lopez reached on an error which enabled Robert De La Garza to score on the play, Donovan Becerra reached on a fielder’s choice to bring home, Becerra promptly stole second to get into scoring position and Diego Martinez reached on an error allowing Donovan Becerra to score on the play.

The stunned Benton Arkansas 13 year old all-stars could only counter with a lone run in the bottom of the first but the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars responded with another huge four run output in the top of the second to extend their lead to 8 to 1 with Alex Paniagua, Issac Stanwick, Luis Kancheff and Alan Vielma each scoring a run in that frame.

The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 13 year old all-stars continued their hitting and scoring assault with a lone run in the top of the fourth, a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and closed out their Southwest Regional championship with a five run production in the top of the seventh while Benton, Arkansas could only counter with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth as the proud and mighty Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 13 year old all-stars came away with the 16 to 3victoryto secure their well earned and most deserving 2018 Southwest Regional championship and earn themselves a berth in the upcoming Babe Ruth League 13 year old division World Series to be held at Mountain Home, Arkansas staring on August 7, 2018. Alex Paniagua earned the pitching victory in the title game allowing only one run and scattered three base hits with solid relief help from Juan Martinez. Leading hitters in the title game were Luis Kancheff who went 4 for 5 at the plate with 5 runs score and Alan Vielma who went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
