As a wise old legendary former coach once said “It’s the Time of the Time” yes sports fans the much anticipated 13th Annual gridiron matchup between the C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the direction of head football coach Eric Villasenor and the Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football squad under the direction of head football coach Tom Gonzalez will kick-off on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 7:30 PM in front of what is predicted to be a full capacity crowd. The game’s attendance will be mostly comprised by the famed Mavericks Nation as well as the Loyal Legion of Eagles faithful along with nearly the entire student bodies of both C.C. Winn High School and Eagle Pass High School at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Eagle Pass Eagles who will be the designated visiting team for this game will enter sporting a season record of 2-0 while the C.C. Winn Mavericks who will be the home team will venture into this contest sporting an identical season record of 2-0 and both teams featuring very stingy defensive units. This marks the first time that the Mavericks and Eagles come into this matchup both sporting unblemished season records.

During his exclusive interview with Eagle Pass Sports Central Mavericks head football coach Eric Villasenor stated the following about their upcoming 13th Annual gridiron matchup against the Eagle Pass Eagles; “Offensively they return plenty of starters on both sides of the ball. Their team speed really stands out watching them on video. Offensively they execute extremely well and are led by an experienced quarterback and offensive line. Defensively they run to the ball and tackle very well. We must protect the ball and win 3rd down to keep the chains moving. Our kids need to continue to play with confidence and execute our game plan in all three phases. We are looking forward to the challenge and we are going to give it our best shot Friday night.”

In his exclusive interview with Eagle Pass Sports Central Eagles head football coach Tom Gonzalez stated the following about their 13th Annual gridiron matchup against the C.C. Winn Mavericks: “The Mavericks are a well coached team. Their quarterback takes command of the offense and makes them go. They have a good running game. Their defense plays real good and is aggressive. We will definitely have our hands full. It’s always and emotional game for the players as well as the fans. We know we can’t make mistakes and need to limit penalties with no turnovers. Both teams will be ready for Round 13.”

` This game should provide some very intriguing matchups out on the playing field with the likes of the Mavericks stellar massive offensive line of Daniel Ruiz, Adrian Munoz, Juan Guerra, Cesar Valdez and Jaime Rodriguez going toe to toe in the trenches against the Eagles standout defensive front seven featuring Moises Rocha, Manny Rodriguez, David Santos and Jorge Gonzalez along with linebackers Jacob Salinas, Roger Ulloa and David Kypuros seeking to turn the Mavericks backfield trio of quarterback Ethan Johnston and tailbacks Marc Cardenas and Fernando Zapata loose into the secondary. The Eagles’ running game of Saul Peralez, J. Herrera, and Jose Hernandez going up against the Mavericks’ perennially hard hitting, strong and quick pursuing stout defensive line of Alejandro Ontiveros, Ricardo Morales, Alexis Ontiveros and Jose Hinojosa and linebackers Patricio Hernandez and Alex Chris Garcia will be quite a matchup to watch for. The Eagles passing attack with quarterback Richie Luna as the trigger man and wide receivers David Lopez, Oscar Castillon, Rey Rey Mendoza and Isaac Gonzalez facing off against the Mavericks experienced secondary unit of Domingo Duran, German Velasquez, Gilberto Vasquez, Hector Nunez and Azael Rodriguez who can cover the best receivers out there and inflict some punishing tackles as well. Last but not least the Mavericks passing game with standout young quarterback Ethan Johnston utilizing the services of his sure handed receiving corps featuring Jared Roiz, Raul Solis, Jose Blanco and Ernesto Vasquez tangling against the Eagles very fast ball hawking secondary squad of Raul Lechler, Joshua Monsivais and the two sport stellar safety duo of Eric Heredia and Ryan Chisum.

The expected standing room only crowd in attendance at this game will have the luxury of being treated to a resounding halftime performance by both the famed award winning Thundering Mavericks Band as well as the famed award winning mighty Eagle Band.

Keys to victory in this highly anticipated matchup will more than likely be play execution, turnovers, field possession and of course good old fashion Lady Luck! You can rest assure that both the mighty C.C. Winn Mavericks and mighty Eagle Pass Eagles will give it 110% effort out on the field this coming Friday night from the game’s opening kickoff until the game’s final whistle and will do so with pride, dignity and class after all this non-district Texas High School gridiron encounter between the two local high schools is simply just the next game on the schedule nothing more and nothing less.
