The playoff bound C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity football under the leadership of head football coach Eric Villasenor will venture to the famed Honey Bowl in Uvalde, Texas this coming Friday, November 10, 2017 to tangle with the always tough Uvalde Coyotes in a 7:30 PM regular season and district gridiron finale.  The home standing Uvalde Coyotes will enter this matchup sporting an overall season record of 5-4 and a district mark of 2-2 while the visiting Mavericks will come in with an overall season record of 3-6 and a district mark of 2-2.  The winner of the C.C. Winn-Uvalde game will finish in third place in the district race and the loser will be the fourth place playoff representative.

The 2017 District 29-6A champion and UIL Region IV runner-up champion Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls cross country team mentored by head coach Juan Gonzalez ventured to Round Rock, Texas on Saturday, November 4, 2017 to compete in the elite 2017UIL State Cross Country Meet.  The youthful highly talented Lady Eagles placed 14th out of 16 teams in the overall team competition with a total of 300 points.

Mavericks clinch Playoff berth

The C.C. Winn Mavericks’ varsity football team under the direction of head coach Eric Villasenor resumed their District 29-5A gridiron battles on Friday, November 3, 2017 when they hosted the current district co-leading Floresville Tigers in a key 7:30PM encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.  The visiting Floresville Tigers ventured into this game with an overall season record of 5-3 and an unblemished district mark of 3-0 while the home standing C.C. Winn Mavericks entered this contest sporting and overall season record of 3-5 and a district mark of 2-1.

The home standing Mavericks gave the district co-leading Tigers quite a battle but unfortunately came up a little short as the Floresville Tigers escaped with a narrow 28 to 20 victory over the Mavericks but in the process the Mavericks clinched a post season playoff berth for the second year in a row. as a result of the outcome of the other games played around the district.  The Mavericks bi-district round playoff opponent will be the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles with the date, site and time to be determined.

Southwest Dragons 18 to 13

The marquee matchup in District 29-6A took center stage on Thursday, November 2, 2017 when the Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football squad mentored by head coach Tom Gonzalez entertained the current district leading San Antonio Southwest Dragons in a 7:30PM gridiron encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.  This key matchup pitted the district’s top two teams with the visiting district leading Southwest Dragons venturing in with an unblemished district mark of 5-0 and the home standing Eagle Pass Eagles entering with a district record of 4-1.

The home standing Eagles erupted with18 second half points to knock off the previously unbeaten Southwest Dragons by the final score of 18 to 13 and move into a share of the district lead with one game to go.  Eagles’ standout running back Dee Andre Torres finished as the game’s leading rusher with 156 yards on 30 carries and tallied two rushing touchdowns thereby joining the exclusive 1000 Yard Rushing Club.

Winn Mavericks varsity football team under the tutelage of head coach Eric Villasenor hit the road on Friday, October 27, 2017 with a trip to the Alamo City of San Antonio, Texas to continue their District 29-5A gridiron battles with a 7:30 PM matchup against the Harlandale Indians at the venerable Harlandale Memorial Stadium located on 4200 Roosevelt Ave.  The home standing Indians entered this game with an overall season record of 0-7 and a district mark of 0-2. The visiting Mavericks ventured into this contest with an overall season record of 2-5 and a district mark of 1-1.  The visiting Mavericks moved one step closer to clinching a post season playoff berth by defeating the Harlandale Indians 21 to 6 with a relentless second half offensive and defensive output.
