Here on the local front the mighty C.C Winn Mavericks under the direction of head football coach Eric Villasenor have commenced the traditional preparations for the upcoming season with their sights focused on capturing the District 14-5A championship where they will compete against several new district foes with the likes of the Laredo Martin Tigers, Southwest Legacy Titans, Southwest Dragons and San Antonio Harlan Hawks as well as returning district foes such as the Harlandale Indians and McCollum Cowboys.

The defending District 29-6A co-champion, bi-district champion and area finalist Eagle Pass Eagles mentored by head football coach Tom Gonzalez have commenced the traditional preparations for the upcoming season with their sights focused on winning the District 29-6A championship where they will compete against the likes of the Del Rio Rams, Laredo Alexander Bulldogs, Laredo LBJ Wolves, Laredo United Longhorns, Laredo United South Panthers and district newcomer Laredo Nixon Mustangs.

The 2018 C.C. Winn Mavericks mentored by head coach Eric Villasenor ventured to the Heart of the Winter Garden area of Carrizo Springs, Texas to kickoff their respective first controlled scrimmage of the 2018 season with a 7:00 PM gridiron encounter against the home standing Carrizo Springs Wildcats. The Mavericks offense and defensive looked pretty solid during this scrimmage racking up a total of 325 yards of offense with 150 yards passing and 175 yards rushing. The Mavericks perennially hard hitting stingy defense only allowed a total of 150 yards to the Wildcats with 90 yards passing and only 60 yards rushing.

After months and months of preparation and anticipation the history making 2018 Babe Ruth League 14 year old division World Series hosted by the City of Eagle Pass, Texas in conjunction with the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League finally got underway on Thursday, August 9, 2918 with festivities starting early Thursday morning with a parade of stars starting at IBC Bank where all 10 teams competing in this truly elite tournament being driven through the heart of downtown Eagle Pass, Texas and culminating at Moncada’s Baseball Park with the tournament opening ceremonies taking center stage where several dignitaries from the Babe Ruth League organization in attendance for this historic occasion.

For well over 70 years, many a faithful fan sat in the bleachers at the famed historic Ft. Duncan Baseball Park now known as Moncada’s Baseball Field witnessing first hand some of the very best games ever played throughout South Texas.

Year in and year out these loyal fans witnessed hundreds of then young baseball players showcase their baseball skills at this historic baseball field. Throughout the past 70 years these then young baseball players provided these loyal fans with some truly memorable offensive and defensive plays as well as some legendary pitching performances from several of the very best pitchers in the history of Eagle Pass, Texas baseball.
