It is with great pleasure and a great honor for Eagle Pass Sports Central to announce that the recently graduated senior standout Lady Mavericks softball pitcher Marychelo Flores daughter of Carmen Ponce and Mavericks recently graduated baseball player Erick Lopez have both been selected amongst hundreds and hundreds of student athletes throughout the State of Texas to receive the prestigious 2017 Minute Maid Grand Slam For Youth Scholarship sponsored by the Houston Astros Major League Baseball Organization.

They each will be receiving a $5.000.00 scholarshiptowards the first year college expenses. The highly talented Marychelo Flores who besides being a stellar softball player was also an honor graduate from C.C. Winn High School Class of 2017 with an outstanding G.P.A. of 97.333 as well as Erick Lopez become the first two recipients of this scholarship award to come from the same school and city in the 10-year history of the MMGSFYB Scholarship program which is another great honor for C.C. Winn High School and Mavericks Nation as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas.

Marychelo and Erick along with the other scholarship recipients will be honored and recognized on Saturday, June 17th at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas prior to the start of the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox 7:00 PM baseball game.

Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates both Erick Lopez and Marychelo Flores who herself will now be taking her scholastic and athletic talent to Texas State University where she plans to major in Speech Pathology and try to walk-on with the Lady Bobcats Softball Program under the direction of head softball coach Ricci Woodard as well as benefit from the services of the Lady Bobcats pitching coach none other than the legendary former University of Texas hurler Cat Osterman the former three-time NCAA Player of the Year, four-time All-American and two-time Olympic Medalist.

Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates young Marychelo Flores and Erick Lopez on your magnificent accomplishment in attaining this prestigious scholarship award through your hard work, effort and dedication both academically and athletically and we wish the both of you continued success and the absolute very best of luck in all of your future endeavors and thank you for representing C.C. Winn High School Class of 2017 as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas with dignity, pride and class! WINN THE DAY!

Thank you for applying for the 2017 Minute Maid Grand Slam for Youth Baseball (MMGSFYB) Scholarship and meeting with the scholarship committee.  You and your fellow candidates were very impressive!

The entire committee would like to congratulate you on being selected as the 2017 MMGSFYB Scholarship recipient! You will receive a one-time$5.000.00 scholarship to help you with your first-year education expenses.

The Astros Foundation will fund your MMGSFYB scholarship directly to your college or university.  You have completed and signed the “Scholarship Information Sheet” which we will use for funding.  Please note that any change in the college or university could affect the timing of funding.

On Saturday, June 17th prior to the scheduled 7:10 pm Astros and Boston Red Sox game, you and your fellow MMGSFYB Scholarship recipients will be recognized at a reception and an on-field announcement ceremony at Minute Maid Park. We cordially invite you and up to 5 guests to attend this game [You will receive a total of six (6) tickets.]

Additional information regarding Scholarship Reception and On-Field Presentation Saturday, June 17th:

Attire - For both male and female recipients, we are asking that you wear long pants or slacks, a collared shirt or blouse and athletic footwear (You will be walking on the field warning track, athletic shoes are required) There will be various photo opportunity for press and publicity purposes, within the guidelines, dress business casually appropriate.

Please plan on arriving with your guests in the Union Station Lobby at Minute Maid Park between 4:45 pm and 5:00 p.m. on the June 17th. The check in desk will close at 5:15 pm. Look for the MMGSFYB sign and table located in the lobby and Minute Maid representatives in black and orange shirts who will assist you.

When you check in you will receive an envelope. In that envelope will be your groups tickets for the game – You and each member of your group must have a ticket to get into Minute Maid Park for the reception and the game. Also in the envelope will be a nametag for you to wear.  The nametag will have a number on it between 1 and 25. That number is your position for reception seating and for the on-field presentation. (You will be introduced pre-game and video of you will be broadcast in park on the video screen)

The Champions Pavilion program will begin at 5:30. There is special seating for each recipient.  Please find your seat and be there by 5:20. During the presentation, each recipient will be introduced and promotional pictures will be taken for use in news media.

At approximately 6:10 your guests will be invited to move to their seats in the stadium. You and the other scholarship recipients will line up in your numbered position and we will begin moving toward the field.

While we are on the field we will always be on the warning track.  There will be committee members and Astros staff directing your movement and placement.  As we know you will, please cooperate with them. We will be taking a group photo from behind home plate.

After the on-field presentation, you will be taken back to the concourse level to join your family and friends for the game!
